about

rich white people with dreadlocks fascinate me. I never saw so many until I moved to Portland. I was obsessing, asking everyone at every party for an entire summer. "Where did this come from? What do these people have in common?". I never got a good answer. No one seems to know, or notice and most importantly no one cared. I was on my own on this one. I did some googling. Did not find a satisfactory answer. Then one day I had the idea for this song and it just pooped out really quickly.

I have moved on to other obsessions. Like how people use the word, "like". Even super old people, people that present as super masculine, dominant and in esteemed positions. Which I find strange because it's use is kind of feminine to me. It's a softening word. It eases the force of whatever come before it.

Not that there's anything wrong with femininity. It's just you have these assumptions of how people see themselves and how they act and it doesn't match so it's confusing if you're always working off the assumption that you're wrong and everyone else must know what they are doing.

Maybe I should write a song that only uses the word "like"?

lyrics

i wanna know what's living in your hair
it looks like it might smell (hey! that's racist)
you look like you smoke a lot of joints
tell me is that the point (you're so edgy)
is your way of saying you're ok? you don't need no soap (is this your message?)

it looks like it takes a lot of work to get blonde hair to nap and curl
dreads are black but you don't like "the rap" you're listening to crap (like jam bands blech!)
how did this get filtered thru the culture and stripped of all its color? (and end up on your blonde head)

what is the clash stealing from the blacks selling it to punks? (on the west coast)
what it the punks, the hippies and their junk, shooting up their veins? (sharing style tips!)

all i know is i don't get it, it seems so fake like vegan leather
you're all trying so hard to look like you just don't care
